Water Leak Detection
Working alongside water utilities, particularly Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU), these dogs are trained to identify water leaking from pipes or other assets used to deliver drinking water from purifcation works to households. They are the first water detection dogs for Queensland.
The dogs are trained to identify the odour of chlorine, alongside other contextual scents such as wet earth, that distinguish these leaks from naturally occurring water. This makes them incredibly efficient when pipes are located in dense bushland, under sidewalks or simply out of sight underground. By using the dogs' incredible sensitive nose, combined with tracking GPS technology, the team are able to follow buried infrastructure pinpoint areas where leaks are occurring. With this information, QUU are able to deploy repair crews faster and more efficiently before leaks become visible.
